Discover our newly launched Arts on Prescription online guide
12 September 2025
We’re excited to unveil our new online Arts on Prescription Guide – a comprehensive, practical resource designed to support public authorities and practitioners in public health and culture.
With mental health issues affecting approximately 1 billion people globally, innovative social and health approaches are vital for community wellbeing. Arts on Prescription is one such approach. Evidence clearly indicates that the arts enhance mental health and strengthen social belonging.
This dynamic guide brings together essential background knowledge, proven tools, best practices, audiovisual materials, and step-by-step guidance on how to plan, implement, evaluate, and invest in Arts on Prescription programmes.
The guide offers practical information covering diverse aspects of community-based AoP programmes. Much of its content is based on practical experience and insights from the Arts on Prescription in the Baltic Sea Region project. Local and regional public authorities, in cooperation with cultural institutions, have piloted and adapted the generic concept to their local contexts in eight locations across Denmark, Germany, Latvia, Poland, and Sweden between November 2023 and November 2024. These piloting locations share their experiences across a broad range of contextual factors, including valuable dos and don’ts for piloting and implementing AoP programmes.
Whether you are a project manager, an arts and culture facilitator, or a decision-maker, the guide provides you with the necessary background information, tools, best practices, and videos on how to plan, implement, and invest in AoP programmes.
The guide features three tailored entry points for key stakeholders:
- Link workers and project managers – guidance for setting up, organizing, and supporting participants in AoP programmes at municipal or regional level
- Culture and arts facilitators – resources for delivering engaging cultural and artistic activities for participants
- Decision makers – tools for assessing feasibility and benefits of implementing AoP in their municipality or region
To help you get started, our Pixi Book offers a brief and engaging introduction to each theme and chapter. Simply scan the included QR codes to explore the full online content and dive deeper into each topic.
