Technical details

Rauna Primary School is launching a pilot aimed at building a stronger culture of resource conservation among students and staff. The pilot focuses on improving the efficient use of electricity and heat across the school building. A special Energy Efficiency Team will be established to support the implementation of the activities and strengthen shared responsibility for energy use. The school building has a total area of 1,822.6 m².

Key aspects of the pilot:

  • Collaboration between authorities and building users: The pilot brings together local public authorities, school staff, pupils and teachers. Local public authorities and staff provide the data foundation by monitoring consumption through the energy platform and following Standard Operating Procedures. Pupils and teachers act as the main participants in behavioural change by taking part in workshops and daily energy-saving activities.
  • New routines for efficient energy use: The school will test practical measures such as zoned lighting based on occupancy. Instead of lighting an entire classroom, lights will only be turned on in the area where students are sitting. Outdoor learning activities and “School Hiking Days” will also be implemented to reduce building use.
  • Visual reminders and education: Informative posters, door hangers and an information board will be used to make energy-saving efforts visible and provide positive reinforcement throughout the school.

The pilot is conducted by Flip-EC project partner Smiltene Municipality.
