Technical details

The pilot at Puiga Library examines how planned building upgrades can support energy efficiency, with a particular focus on how library users and staff experience and respond to changes in the indoor environment. Based on a user experience assessment conducted jointly by the school management and the library, it was concluded that the current lighting system no longer meets present-day needs. As high-quality lighting is essential for daily operations, reading activities and the overall functionality of the library, improving the lighting has been identified as an important part of the planned building upgrades. The building was constructed in 1979 and renovated in 2022–2023. The library covers approximately 100 m² within a total building area of 4,757 m².

Key aspects of the pilot:

  • User experience survey: Before any changes are implemented, library users and staff will be surveyed to gather feedback on the existing lighting conditions and overall user experience. This will help document how users currently perceive the space and provide a basis for comparing the situation before and after the improvements.
  • Connection to planned building upgrades: According to the current plan, priority will first be given to upgrading the heating and ventilation systems. Once these improvements have been completed, the library’s lighting system will also be replaced. The pilot will therefore use the planned upgrades as an opportunity to assess how changes in the building environment impact user behavior and satisfaction.

The results will help show how technical improvements and user feedback can be combined to support more energy-conscious building use.

The pilot is conducted by Flip-EC project partner Development Centre of Võru County.
