Hyldebakkegård Day Care Institution
09 June 2026
Hyldebakkegård Day Care Institution in Brøndby is one of the municipality’s smaller daycare institutions. It serves children aged 1–6 and has approximately 20 pedagogues. The building includes an industrial kitchen where lunch and snacks are prepared every day. It was originally constructed in 1920, has undergone several renovations, most recently in 2012, and has a heated area of 613 m².
Key aspects of the pilot:
- Heating and ventilation behaviour: The pilot focuses on everyday behaviour related to heating and ventilation. The institution has a nature profile, meaning that staff and children spend a lot of time outdoors in the courtyard. Doors are sometimes left open so staff can communicate with children going inside, for example to use the restroom. This can lead to heat loss and energy waste, particularly when thermostats are not turned down.
- Guidelines and seasonal routines: Best-practice guidelines on good energy behaviour will be developed which will be integrated into relevant structures at the pilot site and visualised through a “Wheel of the Year”, showing when seasonal changes make heating and ventilation behaviour especially important.
- Energy pilots network: The pilot is connected to an “energy pilots” network with representatives from all piloting sites in Brøndby. The network meets every three months to evaluate, share insights and discuss how experiences can be scaled to similar institutions in the municipality.
The pilot is conducted by Flip-EC project partner Brøndby Kommune.
