Geschwister Prenski Schule

Technical details

The school Geschwister Prenski Schule focuses on raising awareness of energy efficiency and sustainability, improving communication among building users and establishing clearer routines. The pilot addresses challenges related to information, communication and transparency, structural framework conditions, personnel capacities, unclear responsibilities and skills gaps. The school building was constructed in 1959 and has a total area of around 11,250 m².

Key aspects of the pilot:

  • Multi-perspective team: The “Green Prenski Team” (“Grüne Prenski Team”) brings together teachers, student representatives, representatives of the school administration and executive team, school assistants and social assistants. The team meets every 1-2 months to coordinate the pilot activities.
  • Weekly activities in class 6a:  As part of the “energy detectives” activity, students measure temperature, analyse and visualise data, and identify “energy guzzlers” related to heat and electricity use by going around the whole building. These gamified activities help to divide tasks between students, raise awareness, monitor progress, discuss findings and provide feedback. The Geschwister Prenski Schule energy detectives are interested, motivated and invested. They regularly offer suggestions for new tasks and activities to enhance the impact of their energy saving actions.
  • Creative awareness-raising: The pilot kick-off creativity team has since developed into an “Energy Theatre” Team with the goal of performing a play to raise awareness among further building users at the school. The creative projects will be presented at the school’s „Cool-tour Fest” : a significant step and beautiful platform for an energy saving communication campaign.

The pilot is conducted by Flip-EC Lead Partner Hanseatic City of Lübeck | Hansestadt Lübeck, Fachbereich Planen und Bauen, Bereich Gebäudemanagement.
