DEAHL BALTIC

Partners from Denmark, Finland, Germany, Latvia, Poland and Sweden develop the DEAHLKit together: a free online training in digital health literacy for healthcare professionals and healthcare managers. It builds on the results of the EU project IDEAHL and on good practice from all six countries. Partners at different stages of digital maturity learn from each other; this is what makes the kit work across borders.

The DEAHLKit offers two learning paths. Healthcare professionals learn to recognise patients who need support and to guide them. Managers learn to make supporting patients part of their organisation's job and to give their teams the time, tools and backing to do it. Both paths follow the team of the fictional Northviken Hospital through everyday situations, with interactive modules and short videos. The kit will be available in seven languages.

We did not design the DEAHLKit at a desk. In all six countries, 234 people working in healthcare answered our survey, and 111 citizens, healthcare professionals and managers told us about their experiences in focus groups and interviews. Their message was clear: patients need more support with digital services, and these services must work for everyone. This shaped every module of the DEAHLKit. In September 2026, healthcare professionals tested the first complete version. From autumn 2026, hospitals, clinics, and healthcare organisations in five countries are putting it into practice – from a psychiatric hospital in Latvia to cancer care in rural Poland, and midwives in Hamburg.

We want every patient in the Baltic Sea region to benefit from digital healthcare, whatever their age, background or digital skills. Our Partners will build the DEAHLKit into their annual training and onboarding. Together with regional authorities, we will bring it to more hospitals and health services across the region.
