This online event will be a unique opportunity to explore the outcomes of the TRUST ALUM project - a groundbreaking initiative that introduced and tested the first aluminum lake treatment in the Baltic States, at Lake Velnezers in Riga.

Over the past two years, TRUST ALUM team engaged a wide range of stakeholders to build trust and transparency in ALUM water treatment. We conducted in-depth scientific studies on the method’s effectiveness and safety, and developed practical materials to support the application of ALUM treatment across the Baltic Sea region.

We welcome you to join us, reflect on achievements, and explore how these findings can support future water restoration efforts across the region.

  • Introduction to TRUST ALUM project by project manager Inta Dimante-Deimantoviča (Latvian Institute of Aquatic Ecology, LHEI).
  • Toolbox to navigate ALUM water treatment in heavily polluted lakes - from legal aspects to monitoring and implementation (Inta Dimante-Deimantoviča from LHEI | Julie Garrison from Vattenresurs, Sweden | Laura Jukāme-Ķerus from the Ministry of Climate and Energy, Latvia).
  • ALUM water treatment: experiences from Sweden and Latvia (Julie Garrison from Vattenresurs, Sweden).
  • Lake Velnezers status: comparison of pre- and post treatment (Barbara Massalska-Duszczy from LHEI).
  • Lake modeling – how to determine what measures are needed and how to properly design them for safe, cost effective and sustainable lake restoration (Brian Huser, Sjörestaurering Sverige AB, Sweden).
  • Stakeholder experiences from Baltic states - Riga City Council (Mārcis Zariņš), Environmental Centre for Administration and Technology, Lithuania (Vaiva Ramanauskienė) and SEI Tallinn (Andreas Hoy).
