Kiel launches Circ@Home: 60 locals explore sustainable living, workshops start spring 2026.

Description

Around 60 interested Kiel residents gathered at the Forum für Baukultur on February 4, 2026, to learn about the new Interreg project “Circ@Home” at the public kick-off event “Weiter statt weg: Kiel wird zirkulär” (Forward instead of away: Kiel goes circular). The event was organized by the University of Kiel together with local project partners and organizations.

Participants met local initiatives like ResteRitter and Zero Waste Kiel, and learned about upcoming workshops on topics such as upcycling, food rescue, and DIY household products. The pilot phase begins in spring 2026 and will provide participating households with a €200 renumeration to be a part of a scientifically monitored study.

The open nature of the event encouraged visitors to ask questions, engage in conversation, and learn about their own options for action. “It was important to us to show that the circular economy is not something abstract, but something that starts in everyday life,” explains project coordinator Marie Tebel (Kiel University). “Together with local stakeholders, we want to develop solutions that are suitable for everyday use and meet people where they are.”

Anyone who missed the kick-off event and is interested in participating in the project can contact the project coordinator Marie Tebel directly (tebel@bwl.uni-kiel.de).
