APRIORA at SETAC-EU Conference

Project: APRIORA
Physical Meeting
SETAC Europe 36th Annual Meeting "Embrace the Outlier: In Science, Regulations and Networks."

Description

SETAC is dedicated to advancing environmental science and science-informed decision-making through collaboration, communication, education and leadership. The Programme Committee of the SETAC Europe 36th Annual Meeting is committed to putting together a not-to-be-missed conference with an exciting scientific programme addressing the overarching theme “Embrace the outlier. In science, regulations and networks.”

This conference theme emphasises that outliers are matters of perspective. In science, unexpected, outlying data may point to unknown, yet potentially interesting phenomena that could lead to innovative insights and understanding. In some regulatory arenas, recent discussions have focused on the inclusion of new, non-standard studies and results. In this view, risk assessment should include the latest scientific insights, even though these may not necessarily completely rely on standardised studies or existing guidance. In networks, outlying opinions and perspectives may be very essential to broadening discussions and open-minded points of view. (more information and link to the full programme available here).

At this year's annual meeting in Maastricht, the APRIORA team was invited to give a presentation about the developed solution - our QGIS tool ready to be applied by all interested stakeholders! Additionally, we have the chance to show our risk assessment approach with Latvian piloting results in a poster session.

Tuesday (May 19th) poster presentation: 3.21.P-Tu375 Environmental Risk assessment of Pharmaceuticals in river catchment areas – case study of Latvia | Ieva Putna-Nimane, Latvian Institute of Aquatic Ecology, Latvia

Wednesday (May 20th) oral presentation at auditorium 2: 3.02.A.T-04 From Pharmaceutical Emission Modelling Approach Toward an Applicable Risk Assessment Plugin in QGIS | Cristiano Guidi, University of Rostock, Germany within the session 3.02A "Advances in Exposure Modelling: Closing the Gap between Scientific Innovation and Regulatory Relevance"
