This past spring, our Swedish project partners, Sustainable Business Hub and the Municipality of Tomelilla, co-hosted both a webinar on the potential of sustainable energy modelling and a training workshop for prospective users of the Energy Equilibrium Platform.
Webinar: Exploring the Potential of Sustainable Energy Modelling
Held on April 29, 2025, the webinar began with Per-Johan Wik and Alice Pettersson from Sustainable Business Hub introducing the platform and its key features. Their presentation was followed by Ellen Boije af Gennäs Erre from the Municipality of Tomelilla, who shared insights from her experience using the Energy Equilibrium Platform.
Tomelilla has primarily used the platform to compare scenarios for repowering and increasing local energy self-sufficiency. Ellen described how the platform has been valuable for developing future energy scenarios and exploring the integration of energy storage into the municipality’s local energy plan. She also noted its effectiveness as a communication tool, particularly in visualizing outcomes and responding to questions from policymakers regarding energy production.
The webinar also featured external speakers highlighting innovative technologies in sustainable energy. Anna Alexandersson, from the local startup Lokal Energi and an expert at RISE and Statkraft, presented new solutions for energy storage in buildings using hydrogen and batteries. Elin Wallin, project manager at RISE, addressed the varying needs of different stakeholders in building resilience within municipal energy systems. She shared findings from the Malmö Energy Lab project, where local industries are testing storage and flexibility solutions.
Training Workshops
The first training workshop was held on May 20, 2025, targeting local municipalities and energy stakeholders. Led by Per-Johan Wik and Ellen Boije af Gennäs Erre, the workshop offered an introduction to the platform through case-based modelling of energy production and storage. Participants then had the opportunity to explore the platform hands-on.
Joining remotely from Latvia, RTU VASSI researcher Ģirts Bohvalovs provided answers to participants’ more technical questions, while also gathering feedback for further development of the platform.
The workshop received very positive feedback, with one participant noting they would recommend future sessions to colleagues.
The next training workshop, focused on regional authorities, is scheduled for September 12, 2025.
