Technical details

As part of the REAVES Platform project, co-funded by the European Union through the Interreg Baltic Sea Region Programme, the third Games Investment Summit Berlin took place on 5 November. The event was organised by medianet berlinbrandenburg, with support from the State of Berlin and the Danish REAVES partners DANIA Academy and Game Hub Denmark.
Throughout the day, 19 experts from 11 countries, including Canada and South Korea – primarily investors and publishers from the games industry – engaged in intensive discussions about emerging financing models and trends in the investment landscape.
How can the shift from company financing to project-based financing, and from equity investment to revenue-sharing models, be effectively implemented? How is the growing number of self-publishing studios, along with their increasing ability to generate and interpret market evidence, changing investment strategies and relationships between publishers and developers? How can indie studios strengthen their investment readiness in an increasingly crowded market? How can the not so insubstantial capital still available in the wider investment market be deployed successfully into the games industry? And how can public investment help stimulate private capital, particularly from angel investors?
The discussions were lively, insightful and thought-provoking. Yet the real impact of a summit like this often unfolds behind the scenes. By bringing together high-level experts in an environment free from funding pitches and requests, the Summit creates a rare opportunity for open, peer-to-peer exchange. Beyond networking, participants can explore ideas, challenge established approaches and jointly develop plans for new investment models.
One can’t help wishing to be a fly on the wall for some of those conversations…
