Webinar “Climate Change and Spatial Planning on the Baltic Sea Coast: Where Are We Now?”

Project: Baltic PlaNet
Virtual event

Description

VASAB Secretariat invites to join the webinar “Climate Change and Spatial Planning on the Baltic Sea Coast: Where Are We Now?” on 3 December 2026 online 9:30–12:30 CET. Organised within the Baltic PlaNet project platform, this event opens an online webinar series for spatial planners around the Baltic Sea Region (BSR) to strengthen their knowledge, practical skills and cooperation to better address climate change risks in their work and contribute to more climate-resilient Baltic Sea coasts.

As the first in a series of Baltic PlaNet webinars, this webinar will focus on basics of climate science, introducing with observed climate change trends and the impacts of climate change in the Baltic Sea Region. This will be followed by short presentations from spatial planners working in coastal areas across the Baltic Sea Region, sharing their observations and experiences of how climate change is affecting coastal areas, what challenges it creates, and how these are (or should be) addressed through spatial planning and coastal management.

In the second part of the webinar, participants will have an opportunity to engage in country-specific group discussions, facilitated in their respective national languages. These discussions will provide a space to exchange experiences and explore how climate change considerations are currently integrated into spatial planning and other relevant planning processes. Participants who are not affiliated with a specific Baltic Sea Region country will join a mixed group and participate in the discussion in English.

Who is this webinar for?

This webinar is for spatial planners, coastal managers and policymakers working in coastal municipalities and regions around the Baltic Sea. Representatives of national authorities and international organisations, researchers, experts and others interested in climate change adaptation and climate-resilient spatial planning are also welcome.

Detailed agenda will follow soon.

Registration is open until 27 November 2026, register here.
