DEAHLKit passes its first test outside the project

In the first two weeks of September, people from outside the project tried out the DEAHLKit for the first time. Their verdict was encouraging and their suggestions are already going into the next version.

In September, 19 healthcare professionals and healthcare managers tested the first version of the DEAHLKit, the main product of the DEAHL Baltic project. For the project partners, this was the moment of truth. It was the first time that the very people the DEAHLKit training course is made for worked through the English version and provided their feedback. The development of the DEAHLKit was started in the beginning of the 2026.

What the DEAHLKit is

The DEAHLKit is a free online course in digital health literacy: the ability to find, understand and use digital health information. It is aimed at two groups. Healthcare professionals learn to recognise patients who struggle with digital services and to guide them. Managers learn how to make supporting patients part of their organisation’s job, and how to give their teams the time, tools and backing to do it.

The course does not teach this in the abstract. It follows the team of Northviken Hospital, a fictional hospital whose everyday situations will look familiar to anyone working in healthcare. In the two videos on the bottom of this page, you can meet Northviken yourself and hear Lars, one of the protagonists from Northviken, explain what digital health literacy means and why it matters in his daily work.

What the testers told us

The feedback was positive and motivating: far more than 90% of the testers rated the content of the DEAHLKit relevant and engaging. More importantly, the feedback was constructive: testers pointed to passages that needed sharpening, suggested clearer examples and indicated where the course asked too much or too little of them. The DEAHL Baltic team is now working through the comments and is revising the material accordingly.

What happens next

The revised English version will be translated into Danish, Finnish, German, Latvian, Polish and Swedish. In late autumn 2026, the large-scale piloting phase begins: hospitals and healthcare organisations in Denmark, Germany, Latvia, Poland and Sweden will use the DEAHLKit with their own staff and report back on how it performs in real working conditions. Those findings will shape the final version – the one that will be available to healthcare organisations across the Baltic Sea region.
