Opening of Community Corner at Toivokoti Finland

The SmartAging Community Corner pilot was officially opened at Toivokoti in Lappeenranta, bringing together residents, care professionals, project partners and solution providers.

During the opening, participants explored the Social Oasis and experienced its different solutions in practice, including multisensory technologies, activity and rehabilitation games, NFC-based content, bio-based materials and circular design elements. The event created an informal setting for discussion, practical demonstrations and direct interaction with the people who will use the space.

The first responses from residents and personnel were positive and curious, with participants already sharing ideas for how the environment and its solutions could be further developed. This initial feedback marked the beginning of the next stage: testing, learning and improving the space together with its users.

The opening also provided an opportunity to recognise the many organisations and individuals whose contributions helped turn the Social Oasis from a project concept into a real-life pilot environment.

The experiences and feedback gathered at Toivokoti will be shared with a wider network of stakeholders, including at the main SmartAging Stakeholder Event in Lappeenranta on 11 November 2026.
