AI-Agri

The project AI-Agri equips farmers with AI technologies to better manage crops and monitor soil health, and helps refine these solutions, making farming more productive, sustainable and resilient.
Project summary

In recent years, the IT sector has introduced several AI-based tools for agriculture, including weather data analysis, crop growth and soil health monitoring, and precision farming. These tools generate valuable insights that can support farmers’ decisions on nutrient management, pest control, planting and harvesting schedules, and machinery use. Despite these opportunities, the number of farms using AI-based solutions and tools efficiently remains small, and awareness among farmers is limited. Project main target groups are mainstream farmers and more experienced “Lighthouse Farms” engaged in crop and oilseed production from rural regions of Estonia, Latvia, Finland and Estonia, and tech companies and rural advisors. The project aims to close the gap between the potential of AI in agriculture and its limited use among mainstream farmers. The web-based tested tool will be designed, which simplifies the farmers decision-making process showing which solutions best match their needs and how to take the next steps. For tech companies, it provides structured feedback on user expectations and adoption barriers, helping them refine products and align innovations with real farm conditions. Wider use of AI-based tools can strengthen the resilience of rural areas by making agriculture more adaptive, efficient, and viable. Farmers will be better equipped to manage change, particularly challenges caused by climate change, rising global input prices, and labour shortages.
