Technical details

The KidsLikeUs project proudly presented its participatory exhibition, Roots of Resilience: Nature-Inspired Sensory Design for All, at the Tallinn Design Festival 2025. Running from 29 September to 5 October 2025, the festival, the largest in the region and celebrating its 20th anniversary under the slogan “Design for All”, welcomed over 10,000 visitors from Estonia and abroad. Set in the atmospheric Krulli Quarter, a former industrial district turned creative hub, the festival showcased the best of Estonian and international design and sparked vital conversations about design’s role in today’s society.

During the week, KidsLikeUs brought a nature-centred, participatory design experience that invited visitors to slow down, explore their senses, and reflect on how inclusive environments can support children’s well‑being. This exhibition unveiled the results of KidsLikeUs project, inviting visitors to discover the Superhero Sensory Garden matrix, explore a DIY sensory book for educators, created to make children more aware of their senses when imagining a dream classroom, sink into relaxing leaf-shaped poufs, and experience the joy of nature with every touch. The concept paired inclusive sensory design with environmental empathy, aiming to show how public spaces can foster resilience through tactile, visual, and auditory encounters.

Spotlight on Inclusion: International Design Conference “Design for All”

A key moment of the festival was the International Design Conference held on 2 October 2025 under the theme “Design for All: Celebrating Diversity, Creating Equality.” The conference was organised in partnership with EIDD – Design for All Europe and the Estonian Chamber of Disabled People, reinforcing a shared commitment to accessible, inclusive design across communities and institutions.

During the conference the KidsLikeUs project coordinator Beata Fabisiak presented the projects’ results in an inspiring speech entitled Cultivating Inclusion: Empowering NGOs and Public Institutions in Fostering Children’s Well-being by Implementing the Concept of the Superhero Sensory Garden. The presentation showcased a variety of international ideas supporting creation of safe and inclusive surroundings, enhancing the well-being of the youngest population.
