Technical details

On 24th March 2026, PlanHeat was presented at the national conference “Thermal Energy and Technologies – 2026” at Kaunas University of Technology (KTU)’s Santakos Valley in Lithuania.

The conference was organised by KTU together with the Lithuanian District Heating Association (LŠTA), the Lithuanian Thermal Engineering Association (LTERA) as well as one of PlanHeat’s project partners – the Lithuanian Energy Institute (LEI). It focused on current challenges and future developments in the thermal energy sector, including technological solutions, energy security, energy efficiency of buildings and the need for innovation in Lithuania’s district heating sector.

Participants were welcomed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kazimieras Juzėnas, Dean of the KTU Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Design, and Prof. Dr. Saulius Gudžius, Director of LEI. The conference also included a discussion on the competencies of future energy professionals and a session dedicated to EU-funded projects.

PlanHeat was presented by LEI alongside other European projects addressing renewable energy, waste heat utilisation, district heating modernisation and skills development in the sector. The project session was moderated by Dr. Rimantas Bakas, researcher at the LEI Heating Equipment Research and Testing Laboratory and member of the PlanHeat project team.

The event brought together more than 90 participants from the Ministry of Energy, the Lithuanian Energy Agency, the national energy regulator, energy and district heating companies, research institutions and universities. It provided a valuable opportunity to present PlanHeat to relevant national stakeholders and to link the project to ongoing discussions on the future of energy planning in Lithuania.
