SmartAging met with Javad Maleki, founder of HammTek, in Helsinki to discuss how health technology and AI can support early detection of oral health issues in senior care.

According to the SmartAging Senior Needs report, fragmented care systems, staff shortages, and time-consuming manual tasks are reducing care quality while increasing pressure on healthcare professionals. Smart and digital solutions are widely seen as promising but are still underutilized due to usability barriers, lack of training, unequal access, and limited system-level support.

Senior healthcare challenges cannot be solved with isolated tools, but solutions like HammTek can become part of that bigger picture. Smart, preventive technologies can improve well-being, ease the workload of caregivers, and enable more dignified aging. What’s needed are integrated solutions that combine safe design, staff support, smart technologies, and sustainable practices.
