H2Deri@BSP at the Baltic Ports for Climate Conference 2025 in Gdynia
27 November 2025
From 19-20 November 2025, the Baltic Ports for Climate Conference convened at Port of Gdynia, Poland, bringing together port authorities, industry stakeholders and sustainability experts from across the Baltic Sea Region to explore how ports can advance decarbonisation and integrate climate strategies into long-term development.
Partners of the H2Deri@BSP consortium, notably Port of Hamburg Marketing, IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute and Lindholmen Science Park AB, participated actively in the conference’s sessions and networking events. Through these engagements, project representatives highlighted the ongoing capacity-building work under H2Deri@BSP and exchanged with a broad spectrum of BSR stakeholders about pathways to advance green energy and alternative fuels in ports.
During the session “Climate policies and Port strategies”, Andreas Slotte, Head of Sustainable Development at Port of Helsinki referred to H2Deri@BSP’s work like preparing for methanol bunkering, when presenting on port-based climate strategies, illustrating how alternative fuels are already being considered in real-world transition plans. Similarly, Ellen Kaasik, Head of Environmental Management Department at Port of Tallinn used a panel discussion to present the project’s “Port Residents Communication Strategy” as a best-practice case for integrating climate initiatives into long-term port development strategies.
Overall, the Baltic Ports for Climate Conference proved to be an excellent platform for H2Deri@BSP to raise awareness of its ambitions to transform Baltic Sea ports into sustainable energy hubs, and to strengthen cooperation with key actors across the region. We look forward to carrying this momentum forward and working together to co-develop practical solutions for a cleaner, greener Baltic Sea Region.
