Workshop #2: Strengthening Climate Resilience for Vulnerable Groups in Ustka
21 November 2025
Designed to strengthen climate resilience for vulnerable groups in the city, the second ClimaResponse workshop in Ustka, Poland, held on 17 November 2025, focused on refining a pilot proposal.
Aimed at municipal representatives and local tourism organisations, the session reviewed planned activities — including an awareness campaign and a climate resilience game — and gathered detailed feedback to ensure that the final pilot responds effectively to local needs and supports inclusive climate planning.
“Climate resilience starts with local action,” said Paulina Aleksander from the “Pomorskie in the European Union” Association, the ClimaResponse project partner tasked with conducting and evaluating pilot projects in Poland.
She further added that municipalities equipped with practical tools, data, knowledge and strong partnerships — as well as good internal coordination — are better positioned to develop targeted, community-based adaptation strategies grounded in a whole-of-society approach.
As part of the ClimaResponse project, local workshops are organised in pilot sites to develop guidelines for inclusive climate planning, with a particular focus on vulnerable groups in the Baltic Sea Region (BSR).
The second workshop in Ustka came as a follow-up to a first session in September.
First workshop – September 2025
The first workshop in Ustka, held in September, brought together the ClimaResponse team from Ustka City Hall and members of the Local Tourist Organisation. They joined project partners to discuss climate threats, their impacts and available mitigation measures. Participants mapped local needs, cooperation structures and stakeholders, and identified vulnerable groups and potential partners for future pilot activities. Vulnerable groups in Ustka include seniors, health resort patients, tourists (including international visitors from the Czech Republic and Germany), children, people with disabilities and pregnant women.
Second workshop – 17 November 2025
The second workshop, held on 17 November, aimed to engage a broader range of stakeholders in developing a climate resilience planning method that addresses the needs of these vulnerable groups. “Pomorskie in the European Union” invited representatives from Ustka City Hall, the Local Tourist Organisation and the Tourism and Sports Association “Ustka”. The workshop focused on presenting the pilot proposal and collecting feedback to refine planned activities. The proposal, prepared by “Pomorskie in the European Union” between the two workshops, addresses the specific needs of Ustka and its identified vulnerable groups. The pilot activities will include an awareness campaign and two local workshops featuring an urban climate resilience game and supporting materials, designed to increase awareness among residents and tourists. Feedback gathered during the workshop will inform the finalisation of the pilot activities.
