Building durable solutions for maritime risk management - Greeting from the OpenRisk II autumn 2025 partner meeting
13 October 2025
The OpenRisk II partners gathered at Aalto University in Espoo, Finland, on 24–25 September 2025 for their autumn internal meeting. The focus was on ensuring the successful finalization of the project’s main outputs and, importantly, securing their long-term durability. As the project enters its final implementation phase, the consortium’s attention turns to the future – ensuring that the developed tools and methods will remain functional, accessible, and beneficial well beyond the project’s lifetime.
The Espoo meeting highlighted the consortium’s strong commitment to making the OpenRisk II results durable and practically useful in supporting maritime safety and environmental protection across the Baltic Sea Region. The partners emphasized that durability is not only about maintaining technical functionality but also ensuring institutional ownership, interoperability, and continued data availability. Dedicated group sessions were held to refine the durability plans for each output and identify concrete actions to be implemented before the project concludes in 2026.

Planning ahead
The meeting also looked ahead to the project’s upcoming activities. Partners discussed the organization of online workshops in the first half of 2026, targeting key end-users of the developed tools. Preparations are also underway for the final conference, scheduled to take place in Norway in autumn 2026.
In addition, the project plans to be actively represented at EU and national events, starting with the EUSBSR Annual Forum 2025 and KOMAREC (Kotka Maritime Research Conference) in October 2025. The project will continue its presence at other relevant events throughout 2026.
Come meet us at these events and join the discussion on the future of maritime risk management in the Baltic Sea region! For the most up-to-date information, follow the project website and @OpenRiskII in LinkedIn.
