The innovative sample loading technique iFiST, developed by Ola Svahn and Christian Hanke, has now reached a stage of refinement that makes it ready for full operation. The upcoming hands-on training at MoLab, Kristianstad University, for our Latvian partners representing stakeholders will mark the first international application of the iFiST technique.
During the training, the Latvian team will learn how to operate the system and will receive a complete iFiST kit to bring back to Latvia. A sampling campaign will then be carried out, and the processed samples will be sent to MoLab for chemical analysis.
The resulting data will contribute to establishing, as required by the Urban Waste Water Treatment Directive (UWWTD), a list of areas in Latvia where the concentration or accumulation of micropollutants from urban wastewater treatment plants poses a risk to the environment or human health.
