A special guest in town!
01 April 2025
During his visit, the Commissioner had the chance to talk about Baltic Sea fisheries and environment with local fishers, processors and politicians to get an insight into the fisheries industry in Simrishamn, one of the Sweden’s biggest fisheries for human consumption in the Baltic Sea.
The Commissioner was impressed to see so much focus on creating local value chains through low-impact fishing. Madeleine Lundin at Marint Centrum, commented that Simrishamn looks forward to see more collaboration on EU-level to deal with the challenges faced by local, small-scale fisheries.
Of course, no visit is complete without tasting some round goby and the Commissioner had the chance to taste the delicious Branteviksgoby, round goby pickled and marinated in different herbs and spices.
The Simrishamn’s fishers’ main message to Costas Kadis? “Please be brave” – and the RoundGoby project couldn’t agree more. Let’s work together for more sustainable fisheries and value chains!
