Updates on activities in PILOT 4: "Biochar-ash-digestate-sewage sludge -based recycled fertilizer production"

One of the CiNURGi partners, RENDBEN LtD. develops a pilot line for the biomass biochar/ash -based fertilisers production utilising local biomass for fertilisers/liming agents for agriculture with high replication capacity in BSR.

Until now the RENDBEN team in collaboration with IMP team developed 9 mixtures of different waste feedstocks varying in composition, dry matter, volatile solids and NPK contents. Since November 2024 the mixing and pelleting have been carried out followed by thermal sterilization and the elemental analysis of pellets. Current status is feedstock waste mixture optimisation, pelleting tests, validation of heavy metals and trace elements in the final product and production of ca. 300 kg of pellets for field and pot tests depending on the limits to be met. RENDBEN is willing to collaborate with other stakeholders within testing various waste streams to formulate novel fertilizer pellets.
