Description
We kindly invite you to the WaterMan Study Trip on “Water recycling as an instrument for safeguarding climate-resilient water supply in humid regions” to Flanders / BE & Zeeland / NL on 14-16 Jan 2025.
Due to climate change, periods of drought are becoming more frequent in the Baltic Sea Region and drinking water can get scarce in certain periods. Against this background, WaterMan project promotes a region-specific approach to water recycling, and supports local, regional & national authorities and water companies in adapting their water supply strategies. Our first WaterMan study trip in April 2024 led to Murcia Region in Spain, an international forerunner of water reuse under semi-arid conditions. This time, we will explore water recycling practices in the humid countries Belgium & the Netherlands, which face the challenge of increasing alternations of too much and too little water that has become typical in the Baltic Sea Region, too.
In the regions of Flanders / BE & Zeeland / NL, water recycling is utilised for ensuring resilient water supply since many years. Practical applications include indirect potable reuse in coastal areas, “circular city districts” with rainwater & greywater recycling, innovative stormwater management & recycling in climate-resilient suburban neighbourhoods, and industrial reuse of municipal wastewater. A two-days study tour will provide the opportunity to examine them on-the-spot and to get into a direct exchange with responsible hands-on experts. A Roundtable Talk in Brussels on regulatory frameworks & support schemes at regional, national & EU level completes the comprehensive introduction to status quo & future prospects of water recycling in humid regions.
Please find the detailed agenda of the WaterMan Study Trip and registration form.
