Technical details

1st place in the DAK Competition Gesichter für ein gesunds Miteinander (Faces for a Healthy Togetherness) for the project Arts on Presciption!

We are overjoyed that our Bremen pilot project Arts on Prescription has won the 1st place in the state competition of DAK (German statutory health insurance). This competition recognizes initiatives that promote respect, tolerance, and community spirit, and that strengthen a healthy togetherness. A better social cohesion not only positively impacts society but also benefits our physical and mental health.

Since the beginning of 2023, Bremen has been part of the Interreg project Arts on Prescription in the Baltic Sea Region (AoP), which is being co-funded by the Interreg Baltic Sea Region programme. Under the leadership of Odense Municipality in Denmark, further organisations from Denmark, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Sweden are taking part in the project alongside Germany, which is set to run from 2023 to 2025. Bremen is the only federal state in Germany taking part in the project, which is being implemented by the Ministry for health, women and consumer protection, the Ministry for culture and the Bremer Volkshochschule (vhs, adult education centre). Please find more insights about the Bremen pilot in our news article or visit the German website at vhs Bremen.

In addition to Arts on Prescription, two other impressive projects were honored:
2nd Place: @bremengirlstalkingwalkingclub
3rd Place: Lichtgrenze Bremen e.V. (Lichtgrenze)

Our German project partners, Hannah Goebel (vhs Bremen) and Imke Seifert (Ministry for health, women and consumer Protection of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen) accepted the award on behalf of the entire team. They emphasized: Art and cultural programmes make a significant contribution to a healthy togetherness. Our project ensures that these offerings especially benefit those who are burdened by stress, anxiety, depression, or loneliness. We are very excited about this recognition.

Ralf Perplies, director of vhs Bremen, also expressed his enthusiasm: We three project partners form a strong team for Bremen. We create accessible programs that enable people to improve their health through creative processes—an excellent example of how art and culture positively influence well-being.

We thank DAK for this fantastic recognition and look forward to continuing to offer many people the opportunity to discover art and creativity as a resource for their health!
