RenoWave Project Partners Convene in Lappeenranta, Finland to Advance Energy-Efficient Building Renovations
21 October 2024
Partners of the Interreg Baltic Sea Region (BSR) project RenoWave gathered in Lappeenranta, Finland, for a partner meeting aimed at accelerating energy-efficient renovations of multi-apartment buildings across the Baltic Sea region. The meeting, hosted by the City of Lappeenranta, marks a significant milestone in the project’s efforts to develop One-Stop-Shop (OSS) Module that will provide comprehensive support for homeowners undertaking renovation projects.
Lappeenranta: A Pioneer in Energy Efficiency
The City of Lappeenranta, a recognized leader in sustainability and energy efficiency, was an ideal host for this partner meeting. Known as the Green Reality City, Lappeenranta has long been at the forefront of climate action and green innovation, with a commitment to becoming carbon-neutral by 2030. The city is actively involved in promoting energy-efficient building renovations and has launched several initiatives to reduce energy consumption in residential buildings.
Lappeenranta’s approach to building renovation involves close collaboration with residents. Through regular forums and public consultations, the city engages homeowners, housing associations, and other stakeholders in discussions about energy-saving opportunities and sustainable building practices. These forums serve as a platform for exchanging ideas, sharing knowledge, and encouraging local residents to actively participate in the city’s renovation programs. In line with the RenoWave project, Lappeenranta is focused on a Guide for Establishing Forums.
“Energy efficiency and use in buildings are very important. RenoWave helps implement our targets and goals. It is also very important to challenge, activate, and educate residents, especially private residents, and RenoWave does that!” Johanna Vayrynen, Director, stakeholders’ relations in Lappeenranta city.
RenoWave: Comprehensive Support for Homeowners
The RenoWave project addresses the many challenges homeowners face when undertaking renovations of multi-apartment buildings, including complex planning, financing, and implementation. The newly established OSS agencies will provide homeowners with a holistic support system, ensuring that all steps of the renovation process are covered—from initial decision-making to project completion.
The OSS Module, the centerpiece of the RenoWave initiative, includes several key components:
- Data Handling Methodology: A framework for managing and analyzing multi-apartment energy data to improve decision-making.
- Marketing and Communication Module: To raise awareness and engage homeowners in OSS services.
- Guide for Establishing Forums: A guide for creating local forums to foster dialogue between residents, experts, and municipal authorities.
- Technical Assistance Module: Support for establishing OSS in regions.
Fostering Long-Term Engagement with Target Groups
A key focus of the RenoWave project is building strong, lasting relationships with target groups—homeowners, housing associations, and local authorities. The OSS model is designed to meet the evolving needs of homeowners, offering continuous support at different stages of the renovation process. By addressing both technical and financial challenges, OSS agencies will make energy-efficient renovations more accessible and less daunting for residents.
During the meeting in Lappeenranta, project partners discussed the ongoing development of the OSS Module and strategies for promoting the OSS services in their respective countries. As the RenoWave project continues, the partner meeting in Lappeenranta highlighted the importance of collaboration in achieving the project’s goals. By working together, the project partners aim to establish a sustainable and scalable model for energy-efficient renovations that can be adopted across the Baltic Sea region.
