Workshop on CommitClimate simulator in Poland
23 July 2024
Representatives of Polish cities and municipalities met on 13 and 14 June during an event entitled “Cities
and municipalities on the way to climate neutrality”, organised by the Association of Municipalities Polish
Network “Energie Cités” (PNEC).
The second day of the seminar was dedicated to new perspectives on the development of cities and
municipalities, where participants were invited to take part in a good practice sessions in smaller groups. One of the sessions, titled “Use of a simulator to calculate carbon footprint and create climate scenarios”, was dedicated to the CommitClimate project.
During this session, Anna Fijas from PNEC presented the basic functions of the CommitClimate Simulator and outlined what it can be used for. Afterwards, Marcin Łojek from the Municipality of Pałecznica together with the other participants went through the sectors available in the tool in Polish. The main focus was on the buildings sector because it is the most important element of activities in municipalities in Poland.
Overall, participants agreed that the tool has great potential for use in municipalities, particularly concerning the buildings and transport sectors. The tool can be used to plan new constructions so that they generate as few emissions as possible. Such simulations can also be useful to visualize potential benefits in the future, as well as to apply for financial support in various investment projects and activities. Participants provided valuable specific suggestions for improving the tool.
